Baby with shoulder dystocia and forceps delivery

Postby Rachel Cohen on Tue Jul 28, 2009 8:11 am

Hi,
I wanted to know if a baby that has had a shoulder dystocia and forceps delivery automatically needs cranial osteopathic treatment?
He is eating well but doesnt sleep well. I am not sure if they are linked?

Dear Rachel

Sorry for the delay in replying.

Osteopathic assessment is very good at identifying strains and tensions within body tissues. Shoulder dystocia suggests that your son was stuck during the delivery and this is a common cause of strains.

He may not need treatment but given the high possibility of strain I think it would be a good idea to get your son checked (a full paediatric osteopathic assessment) so that this can be ruled out. If there are no strains or tensions the osteopath would let you know this and it would not be necessary to treat your child.

Please telephone the clinic if you would like to discuss this with an osteopath,

Best wishes
Nancy
