sensory processing disorder and cranial osteopathy

Postby laura75 on Sun Jun 14, 2009 10:57 pm

HELLO,
I'VE GOT TWO QUESTIONS PLEASE,
1. MY 3 YEAR OLD HAS SENSORY PROCESSING ISSUES (TACTILE) .IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND A PAIR OF SHOES AS HE CAN NOT STAND THEM PLUS OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE TEXTURE OF CERTAIN FOODS ETC. WOULD THE CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY HELP WITH THIS?
2.I'VE BOOKED TWO APPOINTMENTS FOR HIM IN TWO DIFFERENT PLACES AND AS IT HAPPENED ONE IS MONDAY AND THE OTHER ONE IS TUESDAY. IS THAT OK OR DO THE TREATMENTS HAVE TO BE SPACED OUT (AT LEAST A WEEK OR SO APART)?
THANKS

Dear Laura

Firstly many apologies for what appears to be a late reply to your message. I replies in June, soon after you send it but the reply does not appear on screen.

To answer your questions,

1. Osteopathy has helped other children with sensory processing issues, but each case is individual and there are many different causes for this issue so I would not be able to say whether we can help your son without assessing him.

2. I'm not sure what treatments you refer to (osteopathic or other?)but generally speaking it is not a good idea to have two similar treatments in quick sucession. firstly, it can be too demanding (asking the body to change too quickly) so you will not see maximum benefit of either. Secondly, it will be difficult to see which one helped. In the case of osteopathy, benefits from treatment continue in the 48 hours following treatment so treating 24 hours later would be too soon.
