reflux and wind and sleep

Postby mimi on Wed Aug 12, 2009 10:05 am

Hi

Christopher is 11 weeks old, under treatment for reflux (renitidine and domperidone). However he is still not feeding well. Christopher will either arch his back or bring up his knees. I try to wind him often but he is still in pain. I could get maybe 20 minutes of feeding only in 2 hours. Christopher seems to give up on eating when he is in pain. It seems that the only time Christopher gets his full meal uninterrupted is in the evening or at night when he is sleepy.
Christopher gets 1 bottle of formula only at 11 pm with aptamil easy digest.

Christopher also cannot settle himself: we have to walk the room then leave our fingers under his neck until he is calm. We tried not to let him go into his deep sleep when we take our fingers off. It only works sometimes.

Could you please help? I am so worried for my poor baby

Hi Mimi

I've posted a link here to a previous question on reflux and some of this relates to your question also:
http://fpo.freeforums.org/11-mnth-old-s ... e-t87.html

It does sound like your son is struggling with his reflux symptoms and this is probably contributing to him needing more help to relax and settle himself. As explained in the link above, there are often mechanical strain patterns within the body's tissues which can influence reflux. Also, as osteopaths we can use techniques which help to calm the nervous system and this often results in babies being more settled.

Please do telephone to book in an appointment so that we can assess your son to see how osteopathic treatment could benefit him.
